Mont Blanc and the Dolomites sit at opposite ends of what the Alps can be. One is the highest summit in western Europe, a dome of ice with a sheer Italian face beneath it. The other is a set of near-vertical limestone towers that look engineered rather than eroded. Both reward a relief model far more than a photograph.
