How it is made
Every model starts as real elevation data. We take publicly available digital elevation models of the mountain, process the terrain in GIS software, and build the geometry from the actual topography. The north face, the Mittellegi ridge, and the pillars between them sit where they do in the real world, not where an artist decided they should go.
The Eiger's north face is the most storied wall in mountaineering: roughly 5,900 feet of concave limestone that generates its own weather. In relief the concavity is the thing to look for, because it is exactly what makes the face so difficult to retreat from once you are committed to it.
The relief is printed in matte PLA and finished by hand, then mounted to a wood base. Choose a single-color finish for a clean, sculptural look, or a multi-color finish with colors mapped to elevation the way a topographic map reads.
