How it is made
Every model starts as real elevation data. We take publicly available digital elevation models of the mountain, process the terrain in GIS software, and build the geometry from the actual topography. The summit, the surrounding ridges, and the glacier basin below all sit where they do in the real world, not where an artist decided they should go.
The southern anchor of the Bernese trio, standing at the head of the Aletsch, the longest glacier in the Alps. The relief carries the glacier's upper basin as well as the summit, which is what gives this piece its unusual sense of scale.
The relief is printed in matte PLA and finished by hand, then mounted to a wood base. Choose a single-color finish for a clean, sculptural look, or a multi-color finish with colors mapped to elevation the way a topographic map reads.
