How it is made
Every model starts as real elevation data. We take publicly available digital elevation models of the mountain, process the terrain in GIS software, and build the geometry from the actual topography. The fluted southwest ridge, the sheer faces on either side of it, and the hanging glacier beneath the summit sit where they do in the real world, not where an artist decided they should go.
Ama Dablam takes its name from that hanging glacier, which resembles the dablam, a pendant box Sherpa women traditionally wear — Ama Dablam translates roughly to 'mother's necklace.' Like Everest, it sits at the edge of what public elevation data can do: the best coverage available is a 30-meter global satellite model, coarser than everything else in the catalog. This model is built from that data and holds up at scale.
The relief is printed in matte PLA and finished by hand, then mounted to a wood base. Choose a single-color finish for a clean, sculptural look, or a multi-color finish colored from real satellite imagery, true to what the mountain actually looks like.
