How it is made
Every model starts as real elevation data. We take publicly available digital elevation models of the mountain, process the terrain in GIS software, and build the geometry from the actual topography. The pulpit, the fjord wall, and the water below all sit where they do in the real world, not where an artist decided they should go.
Preikestolen is a flat slab of granite sitting nearly 2,000 feet above Lysefjord with a near-vertical drop on three sides. Norway surveys its terrain at one-meter resolution, and this is a landform where that resolution earns its keep: the flatness of the pulpit only reads if the underlying data is fine enough to keep it flat.
The relief is printed in matte PLA and finished by hand, then mounted to a wood base. Choose a single-color finish for a clean, sculptural look, or a multi-color finish with colors mapped to elevation the way a topographic map reads.
