How it is made
Every model starts as real elevation data. We take publicly available digital elevation models of the mountain, process the terrain in GIS software, and build the geometry from the actual topography. The dip slope, the cliff band, and the long summit ridge all sit where they do in the real world, not where an artist decided they should go.
Rundle is the long tilted wall standing over Banff townsite and the Vermilion Lakes, and a textbook example of a dip slope: one side follows the tilted bedding planes at a steady angle, the other drops away in cliffs. Few mountains show their geology this plainly in relief.
The relief is printed in matte PLA and finished by hand, then mounted to a wood base. Choose a single-color finish for a clean, sculptural look, or a multi-color finish with colors mapped to elevation the way a topographic map reads.
